Commenting on the start of a six day strike by Network Rail staff inSouth Wales, Jenny Willott, Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for CardiffCentral, said:

"This strike couldn't have come at a worse time.

"Regular users of South Wales rail services will quite rightly bedumbfounded at the inability of the Unions and Network Rail to come toan agreement over a relatively small change to staffing shift patterns.

"Punishing commuters is not the way to go and this strike should becalled off and negotiations resumed as soon as possible."

Commenting on future planned engineering work on the South Wales toLondon line over the festive period, Jenny said:

"Stacking up such a large amount of engineering work for the Christmasholidays will catch many people off guard.

"While I welcome the improvements this will bring, they will causeserious disruption for many people.

"Network Rail need to properly publicise these engineering works toensure that people trying to get home or visit friends and family overthe festive period are not caught out."
