Results mean a day for celebration but political questions must be addressed in the coming weeks - Randerson

Commenting on the release of GCSE results for students across Wales, Welsh Lib Dem Shadow Education Minister, Jenny Randerson AM said: "I would like to congratulate all the students in Wales who have worked so hard for their grades. "This year's small overall rise in grades is welcome. When results are absorbed in greater detail, we are likely to still see a huge disparity in grades between poor and better off pupils. The debate needs to move urgently to how we can increase educational opportunities for those with poorer backgrounds. "The gap between boys and girls is also continuing to raise alarm bells although some schools are clearly getting to grips with this problem well. "Above all, today is a day for celebration but political questions must be addressed in the coming weeks and months.
