Welsh Lib Dems select Euro team with strong green credentials

2013 Ebrill 11 1:15 PM

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have today announced that Aberystwyth-based Alec Dauncey will lead the team of candidates to stand in next year's European elections.

The following candidates have been selected:

  1. 1.Alec Dauncey
  2. 2.Rob Speht
  3. 3.Anna White
  4. 4.Bruce Roberts

Alec Dauncey said:

"I am delighted that Welsh Liberal Democrat members across Wales have put their faith in me to lead the candidates' list for next year's elections. Together, we will be fighting to ensure that Europe works better for Wales.

"The reality is that we can't tackle all of Wales' or Britain's problems alone. As we all know, the economic outlook across Europe is a bleak one, it is essential that we work closely with other countries to help us all pull through these tough times, in an uncertain wider world. The European Union and the single market are key to our economic future, and to jobs and wellbeing. Decisions that are made in Brussels are important for all of us.

"As someone who has worked extensively on environmental issues, I know only too well the huge importance of having strong voices in Europe standing up for green issues. Wales can be a world-leader in green technologies and green jobs as well as progressive land use and agriculture. The potential is there, we need MEPs willing to drive the green agenda forward. If elected, I will press for scope for Wales to have the chance to be in the European forefront."

Aled Roberts, Chair of the Welsh Liberal Democrat European Election campaign, commented:

"We are delighted to announce our candidates for the European Parliamentary elections today.

"This is a very strong team who I know will front a solid campaign for the election next year. The fact that we are the first major party to announce our candidates just goes to show how ready we are for this set of elections.

"The Welsh Liberal Democrats will fight hard for a better deal for Welsh families, working tirelessly in the European Union to deliver practical help to ease the burden on people at home and to deliver a better deal for Welsh businesses."
