Elizabeth Evans selected to fight Ceredigion in 2016

2013 Medi 30 3:58 PM

Liberal Democrat members in Ceredigion have overwhelmingly selected Elizabeth Evans to be their candidate for the 2016 Assembly.

Elizabeth was born and raised in Aberaeron and since 2005 has worked as Senior Caseworker to Mark Williams MP. In 2008 she was elected as the County Councillor for Aberaeron and was re-elected with a large majority in 2012. Elizabeth was also the Assembly Candidate during the 2011 elections, when Plaid Cymru's majority was halved to just 1,777 votes.

Commenting on her selection, Elizabeth Evans said "I'm delighted that the membership in Ceredigion have given me another opportunity to be their candidate in the Assembly Elections."

"On so many issues I believe that the Welsh Government have let us down, from rural broadband, to health & social care, to rural transport, they have failed to deliver the investment and services that we need here in Ceredigion. The Labour Government in Cardiff and the Plaid Labour Coalition before the last election have just ignored the needs of rural Wales. I want to change that."

Commenting on Elizabeth Evans selection, Mark Williams, the Liberal Democrat MP for Ceredigion said:

"I'm excited that Elizabeth will be standing again after the excellent progress she made at the last election. Her record of hard work for local people as a Ceredigion Councillor and as my Senior Caseworker is there for all to see."

"Just in the last three months the Liberal Democrats in Government have delivered millions of pounds of investment in Ceredigion, with a new campus for IBERS that will create jobs and support cutting edge research and millions invested in better mobile phone signal for rural Ceredigion. That's the kind of difference that the Liberal Democrats can make to help build a stronger economy in Ceredigion."

Commenting further, Mike Woods, Chair of the Liberal Democrat Campaign Committee said "The Liberal Democrats in Ceredigion campaign all year round. This year alone our volunteers have spoken to thousands of people, from right across Ceredigion about the issues that matter to them."

"What they're telling us time and time again is that they feel let down by Plaid Cymru. Our Assembly Member had her feet under the table when the Welsh Government could have revised their surplus places policy, which is forcing many small rural schools to close in Ceredigion."

"She was also present around the Cabinet table when her Welsh Government re-valued business rates, forcing many small businesses in Ceredigion to pay sky high rates that are forcing many out of business entirely."

"Plaid Cymru have failed to deliver for Ceredigion in the Assembly. What we need is a strong Liberal Voice in the Assembly, fighting for our needs. That is exactly what Elizabeth Evans will do."
