Roger Williams Attends Gurkha Lobby of Parliament
Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire and Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, today attended a lobby of Parliament by members of the Gurkhas to support their campaign for fairer pensions
Speaking after the debate, Mr Williams said:
"The treasury claim that it would cost them £75m to provide pensions for Gurkha soldiers, yet if all Gurkhas were to take up the residency rights to which they are now entitled the cost would be up to £400m in benefits.
"The Treasury have a duty to pay fairer pensions to all Gurkhas and I was happy to be able to meet with a number of Gurkhas today to show my support.
"Brecon is home to the Mandalay Company and has a large Gurkha community who are well respected and, along with their families, welcomed into our communities"
