Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has called on the First Minister in theChamber to prioritise an hourly service on the Cambrian Line under theWelsh Assembly Government National Transport Plan.

Under the Welsh Government's Draft National Transport Plan an hourlyservice between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury will be introduced 'by 2011'.

Commenting, Welsh Liberal Democrat Mick Bates stated:

"The Cambrian Line is becoming increasingly popular, with more and moretravellers using the service. We have four carriages but this is notenough to meet current demand and people are being put off by delays andovercrowding.

"It is crucial that we commit to economically sustainable and affordableoutcomes, cutting carbon emissions through large scale investment inreliable public transport.

"The Welsh Government must prioritise an hourly service on the CambrianLine, so that we can put this ambition into action and encourage peopleto get out of their cars and onto the train."
