Kirsty Williams calls on Welsh people to Take Back their Power over Politics.

2009 Mai 28 11:43 AM

Kirsty Williams, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats has called on voters across Wales to seize the chance to reform politics in Westminster and in Cardiff Bay. The Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg today launched a 100 day plan of action for reform of Parliament and online petition at .

Kirsty Williams endorsed the campaign, saying:

"Now is the time to completely reform our politics, to build a system on foundations of transparency, accountability and public ownership. The Take Back Power campaign sets out a timetable for change, which only those happy with the status quo will block. I urge Welsh voters to read Nick Clegg's plan of action on the website and give their backing to the campaign. It's sad to say but it's probably now or never, we really must seize the opportunity over the next 100 days. If you want to be able to sack your MP, If you want your vote to count, if you want to know who takes donations, if you want more power for Wales and our local democracies I urge you to step forward and take back your power today."

Nick Clegg had earlier outlined the need for urgency and action, instead of warm words and rhetoric, saying:

"let us bar the gates of Westminster and stop MPs leaving for their summer holidays until this crisis has been sorted out, and every nook and cranny of our political system has been reformed." In an article published as part of the Guardian's 'A New Politics' series.

Nick Clegg outlined his proposals in an article submitted to the Guardian 28/05/09
