Kirsty Williams asks First Minister if Assembly Economy Department is fit for purpose.

2009 Ebrill 28 10:58 AM

Kirsty Williams, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats has written to the First Minister, Rhodri Morgan asking for his assurance that the Department of Economy and Transport is being sufficiently well managed to deliver the help Welsh business needs during the recession. Kirsty Williams said: "The Welsh Liberal Democrats are seriously concerned about the ability of the Labour-Plaid Government to deliver the support the Welsh economy needs, at this critical time. We know that the Pro-act scheme is helping tiny numbers of businesses, that the FS4B scheme is not being delivered across Mid Wales and that Transport Authorities still do not know what support the Government will give them, months after they should have finalised budgets for this year." "This is a critical time for the Welsh economy and it is becoming increasingly clear that much needed support is reaching a tiny minority of those in need. We wrote to the Deputy First Minister a month ago to ask for clarity on the state of the FS4B scheme and have still not received a response. As we understand, the tendering process for FS4B support in Mid Wales is yet to recommence."
