Brecon and Radnorshire MP Roger Williams is encouraging people in Wales to add their support to a campaign aiming to raise awareness of men's health issues.

Mr Williams is once again participating in Movember, an annual month long event during which men are encouraged to grow moustaches and raise money for charities supporting research into cancers that affect men. In 2010, over 112,000 UK Men and Women got involved, raising £11.7 million.

The ability to grow facial hair is not a prerequisite for participation. Women are able to sign up to demonstrate their support.

Commenting, Mr Williams said:

'Movember is a light-hearted campaign but there is a serious message behind the fun. Thousands of men every year are affected by prostate or testicular cancer and it is vital that we do what we can to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of these diseases.

'Talking about health is not something that comes easily to some men and this is a good way of getting the message across.

'This will be my second moustache, after the success of last year's "Bobby Windsor", this year I will be aiming for something similar to Wales footballing legend Ian Rush.'
