‘Enquiry into examination boards must be robust’ – Aled Roberts AM

Commenting on the news that a GCSE exam has been postponed after details of some questions may have been revealed to a seminar of teachers, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for Education, Aled Roberts AM, said:

"It is right that we support the actions taken today to ensure that the WJEC withdraw and re-write the ICTY unit three paper despite the impact that this will have in the short term on the students affected.

"We need to ensure that we retain confidence in the exam system and this news will be a worry for pupils, parents and teachers alike. I await the outcome of the full WJEC investigation as soon as possible. In the meantime I call on the WJEC to ensure that their guidance regarding these briefing meetings is re-enforced as the Board has a huge responsibility to ensure the integrity of the whole examination process.

"We also need to ensure that the Welsh enquiry into the future of the market system for examination boards is as robust as possible and sits alongside the enquiry taking place in England."
