Brecon and Radnorshire MP Roger Williams handed over a petition of 888 signatures to HSBC's Acting Head of UK Branches, Beverly Horler, in a last gasp effort to stop the closure of its Presteigne's branch.

During the visit to HSBC HQ in Canada Square, Roger further expressed his disappointment at the proposed closure, reiterating to Ms Horler the difficulties faced by those in rural areas to access financial services.

Commenting, Mr Williams said:

"The people of Presteigne's efforts, led by Chamber of Commerce Chair Rosamund Black and the County Times, have been tremendous, they are fighting right till the end.

"My colleagues and I will continually raise this issue, even if the branch of HSBC in Presteigne ends up closing. It is now our job to ensure that other banks uphold their pledges to leave at least one or more banking facility for communities in rural areas."
