‘Over a million Welsh workers to receive a £130 tax cut’ – Kirsty Williams

Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, Kirsty Williams, has welcomed the rise in the income tax personal allowance that will put £130 back in the pockets of over a million low and middle income workers in Wales.

The rise has meant that a further 51,000 of the lowest paid people in Wales are lifted out of paying income tax altogether.

Kirsty Williams said:

"Over the last few decades, under both Tory and Labour Governments, the tax system had become increasingly unfair, sucking more and more people into paying Income Tax.

"In difficult times, we believe that people on low and middle incomes should get the help they need, which is why I am pleased that Liberal Democrats in Government have increased the personal income tax threshold. This will give hard working people in Wales more of their money back into their pockets.

"The changes coming into force will help ease the pressure on many thousands of people across Wales who are coping with higher costs of living and will mean that the very lowest paid no longer see their hard earned cash taken by the Government.

"Welsh Liberal Democrats can be proud that over a million hard working people in Wales will be receiving a £130 tax cut and over 50,000 of the lowest paid workers will no longer have to pay a penny of income tax."
