Kirsty Williams, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, today launched the Welsh Liberal Democrat campaign for the local government elections by promising to continue delivering better local services, better schools and better value for money.

The document entitled 'Better schools, Better services, Better Value' sets out how Welsh Liberal Democrats want to see more powers over local issues in the hands of local people across Wales. The document also highlights the party's strong record of delivery over the past decade in councils across Wales.

Cardiff Council Leader, Cllr Rodney Berman showed Kirsty Williams how Welsh Liberal Democrats have transformed and regenerated Cardiff by bringing in major outlets and major sporting events to the city. Cllr Berman also showed the Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader how they have developed the successful St. David's - Dewi Sant shopping centre that has provided thousands of jobs and ensured a much needed economic boost for the capital city.

Both leaders also visited the successful baby, nursery and maternity retailer Jojo Maman Bébé, a Welsh-based company with their flagship store in St. David's - Dewi Sant.

The Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader, Kirsty Williams, said:

"I am extremely proud of our record in local councils all across Wales. When you vote for a Welsh Liberal Democrat councillor on May 3rd, you will be voting for a councillor who will work hard for you and your community and a councillor that will go that extra mile.

"When people in a local authority put their trust in Welsh Liberal Democrat councillors, what you get is prosperity and jobs like what we've seen in Cardiff, better educational attainment as we've seen in Wrexham and real investment in public transport as we've seen in Swansea. In many other local councils across Wales, Welsh Liberal Democrats have been providing good quality services to half the population of Wales, with huge success.

"Welsh Liberal Democrats know that times are tough. The family budget is stretched and that is why, while delivering top class services, Welsh Liberal Democrat-led councils have consistently kept council tax rises low. In the National Assembly, we've ensured that children from poorer backgrounds get the help they deserve through the pupil premium and in Westminster we are lifting millions of people out of paying income tax and putting more money back in their pockets.

"What you get when you elect a Welsh Liberal Democrat councillor is someone who will be the voice of the community at county hall, not county hall's voice in the community. We know what the priorities of local people are because our councillors and activists are firmly rooted in the community.

"Our manifesto sets out the Welsh Liberal Democrat vision for local councils and includes concrete examples of how we have improved communities across Wales. It is a vision for better local services, better schools and better value for money. A vote for the Welsh Liberal Democrats is a vote for just that."
