Adding to the concerns that have been raised about the impact of changes to the Welsh government's flagship anti-poverty scheme, Peter Black, Welsh Liberal Democrat Social Justice spokesperson said:

"While I wholeheartedly support the idea of improving the living conditions and prospects of people in the most disadvantaged communities across Wales, the Welsh Labour Government has mismanaged huge amounts of money that could have made a real difference in our poorest communities.

"We've seen report after report criticising the Welsh Government's implementation of their flagship poverty scheme with some stating that it has had a marginal impact on the lives of the poorest in Wales.

"One of the biggest weaknesses of the Communities First programme since its inception has been the failure to engage with the private sector, particularly local businesses, in regenerating local communities. Change is needed in the Communities First scheme and I strongly doubt whether this Labour Government will be able to make the changes needed to help the poorest communities in Wales."
