Aled Roberts announced as Chair of European and General Election Campaigns

It has been announced today that Aled Roberts AM is to chair the Welsh Liberal Democrat European and General Election campaigns leading the party through to 2015.

Aled Roberts has years of campaigning experience. He represented the Rhos and Ponciau Ward on Wrexham Council from 1991 until he stood down in 2012 to become Assembly Member for North Wales. During his time as a councillor, he was Mayor of Wrexham in 2003-04 and was Leader of Wrexham County Borough Council from 2005 to 2011. He is currently Party Whip in the National Assembly and is spokesperson on Children, Education and the Welsh language.

Aled Roberts commented:

"I am thrilled to accept Kirsty's invitation to Chair the Party's 2015 European and General Election Campaigns. It is a great honour to be able to lead the party through these vital set of elections.

"I believe my role will to be listening to a wide range of activists, parliamentarians and staff to ensure that we are fully able to learn the lessons from previous campaigns and benefit from the vast campaigning experience within the Party.

"The recent success in Eastleigh showed that the Liberal Democrats are still very much a strong campaigning force and are building a stronger economy in a fairer society, enabling every person to get on it life.

Announcing the news, Kirsty Williams, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, said:

"I am delighted to be able to announce today that Aled Roberts will be chairing our European and General election campaigns.

"Since entering the National Assembly, following many successful years leading Wrexham Council, Aled has used his experience to further strengthen the party on a national level. I know his passion and leadership skills will go a long way in ensuring that the party is fully equipped and ready to be firing on all cylinders for the up and coming elections over the next few years."
