N Wales Science Park Delay

2013 Ebrill 26 9:53 AM

North Wales Lib Dem AM Aled Roberts has hit out at Labour's Welsh Government because it is six months since a North Wales Science Park was given the green light.

"Last year Plaid Cymru agreed to support the Welsh Labour Government's budget in exchange for the creation of a science park in North Wales," explained Aled Roberts. "Now we learn that the Welsh Government has only just started working with two Universities on creating a business case for this science park, a full six months after it was first announced.

"But such delay is typical of this Labour-run Welsh Government. Twenty months after the launch of their flagship Enterprise Zone Programme, nobody knows what they are doing.

"To date, there is no evidence that a single new private sector job has been created or a single brick being laid as a direct result of these Enterprise Zones.

"The Minister has still to announce any targets or aspirations for either job creation or the building of new premises. Only now is the marketing of the Zones beginning to take place. In terms of promoting our zones, we're still on the starting line while our English competitors are half-way down the back straight.

"This just goes to show the backwards way in which this government is approaching economic development.

"Once again, Wales is being left behind, in comparison to England."
