“Pupil Deprivation Grant must continue” says Aled Roberts

2013 Mehefin 5 3:24 PM

Aled Roberts, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for Education in the Assembly, is calling on the Education Minister, Leighton Andrews, to confirm that the Pupil Deprivation Grant will continue to be a regular feature of school funding in the future.

Commenting, Aled Roberts said:

"My research is telling me that schools in my region agree that the PDG has been an enormous help, and that without the PDG they couldn't afford to provide the additional support which is visibly closing attainment gaps.

"Where we have clear examples of improvement it is vital that we use those as best practice for other schools to follow.

"What is worrying me is that 60% of respondents are unsure how much longer they will receive the PDG and without that certainty of provision it is very difficult for them to plan for the future.

"Welsh Liberal Democrats are committed to this additional source of funding and today I am calling on the Education Minister to commit to continuing to fund this invaluable source of support for the children and young people who need it the most."
