Mark Williams, the Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Ceredigion, has welcomed the news from DHL that as of 1st January 2015, no areas of Wales will be charged for delivery just for being in a rural area.
DHL have been persuaded to drop the £16 charge by Mark Williams, who expressed his concerns that the 'Remote Area Service' charges were unfair to those living in rural areas, and was particularly damaging to all those running small businesses.
A representative from DHL contacted Mark Williams to confirm that 'We have now completed our operational capability review and I can confirm that from 1st January 2015, all Welsh post codes will no longer be subject to a Remote Area Service surcharge.'
Mark Williams MP said: "I am very pleased by this news. The surcharge of £16 per delivery is excessive, and is a real drawback for the many small businesses in Ceredigion and across Wales. I am therefore very pleased that DHL have reviewed this decision. I look forward to the changed being implemented from the beginning of next year."
